Plenty of us had romantic flings back at Lehigh; some of us even discovered our other halves in part because of Lambda Chi Alpha. Bill Brichta ’76 and his lovely wife Peggy have just such a love story. We reached out to learn about their Lambda Chi Alpha-fueled romance in celebration of Valentine’s Day.
When and where did you first meet your wife and how long have you been together?
We met as complete strangers in March of 1975 at the Lambda Chi house (Lehigh) at something called a Saturday night “Western Party”. Basically you had the option of dressing in any western, cowboy attire you could pull together. I did not, and she did not, so maybe that made it easier to find one another. We have been married 41 years now and we have 4 children and 5 grandchildren. All 4 children graduated from Lehigh, three years apart each. It’s a nice common bond they have together and they are best of friends.
What Lambda Chi Alpha events or social occasions do you remember enjoying with her?
The two best were Parents Weekend in the house where she met my parents for the first time over dinner. Second would be White Rose Dinner in December 1976 which was done well by the brothers that evening. They kept the candle lights going and the water glasses filled !
Do you and your wife still meet up with any couples you knew through Lambda Chi Alpha?
Yes, there are several all from that ’75-’78 era and usually at Lehigh home football games. A few have stayed friends for life, even though we’re a little scattered now by distance.
Do you have any photos you can share of you two back at Lehigh and now?
Sure. One involves a brother’s wedding, second is walking across campus after the wedding, last is Day 1 for our first child. Let’s remember that hair was a bit longer in the late 70’s!
